Every so often I feel obliged to play a random mediocre game rather than one with any sort of renown - partially to keep my average rating down, but also to give myself a different perspective. This time, that random game is Heavy Fire: The Chosen Few, a 3DS light-gun shooter that follows an elite squad of American soldiers across two campaigns, totaling in twelve missions. The story is extremely basic, and told thru comic panels. The first mission takes place in South America, and sees The Chosen Few trekking across the continent in an effort to eliminate a high priority target. In a weird way, this mirrors the recent extraction of Nicolás Maduro, although this time we are shooting to kill. The second campaign takes you to Africa, where you are tasked with rescuing a highly important doctor. The missions themselves progress well, and have the perfect level of difficulty. The light-gun mechanics are very limited, only rewarding objects destroyed and longshots, but it still feels responsive and rewarding to kill enemies. After finishing a mission you are given money based on your score, which you can then spend on new guns. If you use a gun too much it will lose durability causing it to jam - I only had to interact with this after retrying the final mission a few times, and thankfully there is a repair option in the shop. There were a few audio bugs in the first campaign, but otherwise performance was adequate. Other than that, there isn't too much going on here. It's a decent light-gun shooter using the touch screen, and seems to hardly exist online. Give it a try if you're a 3DS owner and a True American Patriot.
