Another month, and other entry for a game played thru Joystick Junkies - my gaming bookclub. This month the choice was Spark the Electric Jester 3 and, I can't lie, I was not excited to play this for several reasons. First, it is effectively a knockoff of 3D sonic games which aren't really renowned to begin with. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll know I don't use the term "knockoff" lightly, but SEJ3 attempts to emulate the mechanics of games like Sonic Adventure 2 with original assets. You may have also noticed how this is the third entry in the Spark series - I haven't played either of the preceding entries and I don't really plan to. The game does a good job with the 3D platforming, and the levels are generally fun to traverse and definitely enjoyable to look at. Ultimately, it lacks polish in the ways one might expect from a fan game. The story in particular is incredibly amateurish, and hard to take seriously as a result. Spark 3 is a worthwhile time for a fan of the 3D Sonic games, but it's appeal falls off quickly after that.
