Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (Switch)

Review number 100! It doesn't feel like long since I've started making these reviews, so I can hardly believe that there are already 100 entries. To begin, I'd like to reflect a bit on these reviews and cohar.co as a whole. What started as a way to build my resume has quikly become a place to direct my creative and cultural energy. It's given me an outlet for my interests, and has been a constant source of direction since I've started the project. These 100 reviews are a reflection of that, just like the mtg page and surely the pages to come. Coinciding with this milestone review was an IRL milestone of even more importance - I recently got to marry my best friend, Francesca!! We had a fantastic wedding (2026-04-18!) with friends and family that outdid either of our expectations, followed by a wonderful trip to Mexico for our honeymoon. It was such an exciting and yet stressful time that even as I reflect right now I can feel the emotions. Only a couple days before the wedding, while we were both in the throes of stress and anticipation, a game called Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was released. It's a life simulation game, and with a name like that it felt like a fitting title for my 100th game, and first as a married man!

I never got a chance to play Tomodachi Life for the 3DS, so I was excited to try out Living the Dream - I even managed to get a physical copy before going on our honeymoon. The game revolves around a village of chahracters - Miis to be exact - who are completely player-created. You can randomly generate characters, or use templates, but a lot of the enjoyment that the game brings is directly tied to these characters and how they interact with one another. In addition to character creation, you unlock the ability to make a lot more including food, buildings, and clothing. Your Miis will interact with the different assets you create, and the different shops and buildings you unlock. I enjoyed making myself and my new partner Francesca along with a mandatory supporting cast that included Piccolo. It was especially fun trying to guide myself and Francesca's Miis together, and I'm glad to report that I was successful! The fun is very much tied to your creativity, and on top of that it is best enjoyed in short bursts since things will happen while you are away. That said, it was a perfect game to travel with, as I could play for a bit in the downtime at airports or at the hotel. The extent of the customization is very high, and they even allow total freedom - no filters on words or images! Overall, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a fun and unique life simulator that makes for a great game-on-the-go.
